Share the JOY Thursday

Had an episode of bulging disc this week and that is hard to deal with.

Ice packs and no sitting for days.

When it is finally calmed down it is such a great feeling to be back to normal again.

Got to go for a scenic drive and some photography opportunities.

 

 There is much JOY is getting through a health problem and feeling good again.

I get JOY from photography and even more so when some wonderful sights are found to photograph.

Tweaking it Tuesday

Found a new linky party I like.

Tweaking it Tuesday.

Been making jewelry for Journey Crafts, a fund raiser for the Sisters of Charity Mission work.

The beads are made from the pages of The Journey, a quarterly magazine published by the SCN about mission work done by sisters and associates, (I am an associate), all over the world.

The pages are cut in one inch wide triangles and rolled into the shape of a bead by many of the retired sisters.

Next we string and add trim beads for necklaces, bracelets, earrings, key fobs. These items are sold in the SCN Visitor's Center and other facilities that the sisters own and staff.

Added the exotic animals to honor the missions in Botswana, Africa.

The next morning Jennifer was in the hospital with a new baby Nikki, shown above.

Friday Shoot Out-theme-Landmarks.

Writing my first post on my new computer.

Yes I have had it a while but not comfortable using it full time yet.

A landmark is a recognizable natural or man-made feature used for navigation, a feature that stands out from its near environment and is often visible from long distances. In modern use, the term can also be applied to smaller structures or features, that have become local or national symbols.

The SCN community was founded in 1812 by Kentuckian Catherine Spalding.
One of only two religious communities originally founded in the U.S. All the others had come from Europe.
This group of sisters founded the first hospitals and educational facilities in the state of Kentucky.

During the Civil War the school run by the sisters were closed here in Bardstown to allow North and South soldiers to be cared for by the sisters at this location.
Today it is still a neutral free zone.

Rick houses, not very pretty but definitely landmarks of the Bourbon Industry.

Our county is known as the Bourbon Capital of the World.

July is a big month for birthdays in our family.

Hodge Podge Wednesday

Well looking for new memes to join.

1. The month of July was named for Roman Emperor Julius Caesar. He's quoted as saying, 'Experience is the teacher of all things."  So what has experience taught you lately?     Just returned from vacation with my 4 daughters. I can do more than I thought I could with 4 motherly daughters to push me. "Mom, we are just doing this to help you." So motivation is the key to staying active.   2. Where did you last roam?   Several miles south east coast to S.C. Spent one day discovering Savannah, GA. 

    3. Speaking of Rome, what would you choose, pizza, pasta, gelanto?   Love, love, love pizza. Thin crust, personal pan, all veggies. Hometown Pizza, the best pizza in our area, just down the road. Our grandson works there and always fixes ours.     4. Which Roman idiom have you used lately? When in Rome do as the Romans do. Loved eating "low country food" while in S.C.   

 Shrimp and sausage boil.   5. Which book or movie have you read or seen that made you want to go to Tuscany?  the classic. Under the Tuscan Sun, book and movie. The scenery is enough to draw me there.   6. Ever visited Disney World?   Never been to California but have visited  The Magic Kingdom in Orlando when some of our kiddos were younger.   7. Ever been stung or bitten by an insect.   Every time I  step outside to our deck. HH says I get bitten because I am so sweet. (I am diabetic) I remember getting stung by a bumble bee on my toe when I was about 8 yrs. old playing in the old barn loft.   Some thoughts. Not blogging as much. Busy making jewelry for the missions served by the local Sisters of Charity.   Pages of the quarterly published magazine The Journey are cute so as to be rolled in to beads by the sister.

  Then I make the jewelry  Necklaces, bracelets and earrings.

  Pack into plastic bags, price them, and insert Journey Beads Card.

Very rewarding task for my volunteer hours.   I even wear the jewelry.   Go here for more Hodge Podging.
